NEW THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE STUDIO OPENS IN UPTOWN LEXINGTON
Uptown Lexington’s newest business, The Green Door Massage and Bodywork Studio, will open its doors on Saturday, August 29th with an open house drop-in from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will include chair massage demonstrations and light refreshments.
Located at 1 East Center Street on the historic square, The Green Door is owned and operated by Donna Gunn, and will specialize in Swedish relaxation massage, hot stone massage, hand and foot massage, and chair massage, as well as customized pain management massage by appointment. Services typically take from as little as five minutes for a chair massage to table massages ranging from 30 minutes to 90 minutes or more. To celebrate the grand opening, Gunn is offering two “Uptown” specials during the month of September: she will provide free five-minute chair massages during lunch each Wednesday from 11:45am to 12:45pm on a first-come, first-served basis, as well as offering $10 off the regular price of any one-hour massage scheduled during the month.
Gunn, a licensed massage therapist since 2007, and a professional member of the American Massage Therapy Association, decided to open the second location of The Green Door in Lexington as a way to reach clients in central and southern Davidson County. The original Green Door studio is located in Thomasville.
“I am a huge believer in the many health benefits massage can provide, such as increasing flexibility and range of motion, relieving muscle tension, assisting the body’s ability to heal faster after injury, strengthening circulation, and reducing stress,” said Gunn, adding “but what’s just as important is massage allows you the time to clear your mind, focus on your breathing, and really listen to your body.”
While those who work in stressful or physically demanding positions such as healthcare personnel, emergency first responders, wait staff, service providers and even athletes can see immediate and lasting benefits, those who work in office or retail environments benefit just as much. “Sitting at a computer, hunched over a desk, or standing behind a counter puts a great deal of stress on the body, causing muscle weakness, repetitive stress injuries, and tension,” noted Gunn, “Massage helps eliminate the tension and stress and reduces pain—allowing you to be more relaxed, more focused and more productive.”
