Hospice of Davidson County Celebrates 30 Years of Compassionate Care With "Faces of Hospice" Tribute Dinner

Lexington, NC, April 14, 2015 – In celebration of their 30th anniversary serving Davidson County and the surrounding region, Hospice of Davidson County is hosting a “Faces of Hospice” tribute dinner, Tuesday, April 28 at 6:00pm in the Mary E. Rittling Conference Center on the campus of Davidson County Community College.  The event is open to all area residents.  The cost is $25 per person and includes a plated dinner.

The evening’s theme, “Faces of Hospice,” showcases the organization’s 30 years of service and support to its patients, their families, the community at large and to Hospice care providers and staff.  A pictorial slideshow featuring photos of loved ones, volunteers, supporters and others will be a feature of the evening’s program.

A host of community and government leaders will be on hand to honor Hospice’s work including:

Lois Jean Query, community leader and co-founder of Hospice of Davidson County

Dr. D. Lee Jessup, Jr., president, Davidson County United Way, and co-founder of Hospice of Davidson County

Dr. Rev. Lee S. Dukes, III, chaplain, Wake Forest Baptist Health-Lexington Medical Center, and co-founder of Hospice of Davidson County

Jane L. Whitehurst, Hospice of Davidson County’s founding executive director

Gary M. Drake, former executive director of Hospice of Davidson County for more than 14 years

Each year, the Hospice of Davidson County Board of Directors selects one or more outstanding individuals to be presented with their Founders Award and one community organization with its Community Partner Award.  The Founders Award recognizes an individual(s) who has made significant contributions to the success and longevity of Hospice of Davidson County.  The award is named in honor of the organization’s founders and the passion they shared in creating a center to help those facing a life-limiting illness.  The Community Partner Award is presented to a community partner, organization, foundation, church, business or corporation that has made significant contributions to Hospice of Davidson County. The award highlights a community partner whose impact has helped the agency sustain and/or grow.  Both awards will be presented as part of the evening’s festivities.

Hospice of Davidson County serves more than 100 patients every day—over 700 every year—through their in-home and long-term facility care, at skilled-nursing homes throughout the county and in the county’s only inpatient hospice center, The Henry Etta & Bruce Hinkle Hospice House located on a 30-acre pastoral setting off US Highway 64.  Approximately 100 staff, hospice aides, professional social workers and medical professionals comprise care teams that oversee the well being of every hospice patient.  Supported by more than 100 volunteers, Hospice offers much more than end-of-life care.  Additional services include:
