HPU STUDENTS ROCKED THE AFTERNOON AWAY FOR A WORTHY CAUSE
More than a dozen students from High Point University’s Alpha Phi Omega fraternity rocked the afternoon away in Kincaid Furniture’s High Point showroom on Monday, October 18, 2010, to raise money for Habitat for Humanity.
Brittany Butterworth and Leslie Touassi, members of the service fraternity, spearheaded the six-hour Rock-a-thon, which raised $601. The money will benefit the local Habitat for Humanity organization, Habitat for Humanity of High Point, Archdale & Trinity.
The students, who gave up a day of their fall break, rocked for the cause in Kincaid’s new Homecoming collection rocking chairs, which were set up along the main thoroughfare of the showroom, directly across from the entrance to the 4,800 square foot farmhouse Kincaid built to showcase the Homecoming collection. Each time a marketgoer dropped a donation into the bucket, students rang a cow bell and the whole showroom broke out in cheers of appreciation.
The Homecoming collection is the culmination of a national corporate partnership between Kincaid Furniture and Habitat for Humanity International; Kincaid will donate one percent of the sale of every item from the Homecoming collection’s more than 100-piece introduction to Habitat in support of that organization’s mission to end poverty housing around the world.
“The Rock-a-thon was a great success,” said Steve Kincaid, President of Kincaid Furniture. “Alpha Phi Omega’s members brought a lot of excitement and energy to the showroom and raised money for a great organization. It’s rewarding to see tomorrow’s leaders taking the initiative to give back to the community and to have fun doing so. And, the fact that they gave up a day of their fall break speaks volumes to their commitment and dedication to service.”
The Homecoming collection, crafted of solid pine, solid walnut and solid maple and birch, along with custom upholstery and slipcovers will debut at retail Spring 2011.
